People consider me to be a funny guy. That's what got me started doing the joke list. I'm actually a genuine smart ass and good with computers, which I think makes me perfectly qualified for this. So, in November of 1997, after getting jokes forwarded to me, I got the idea of eliminating all the > marks on them and sending them to my friends. They loved it. They asked me to send jokes to some of their friends. Over time, I formalized everything with the joke list, started calling it The SnareMan Joke List, and started sending one joke every day I got the chance, which usually included holidays.

After about 18 months of having people leave only because their mailboxes were getting too full, I created a Weekly List to go along with the Daily List. The Weekly List simply received the Daily List's Monday mailing. Other than the frequency of the jokes, the two lists were completely identical.

After getting a job building, (re)designing, and maintaining web sites, certain features were added to The SnareMan Joke List, including a total revamping from January 19, 2001 through March 23, 2001, which included renaming it to BrentButler.com Jokes.

In November 2002, I decided I no longer had the time to continue getting jokes ready each day, so I merged the Daily List and Weekly List into one. Most jokes are now sent on Mondays.
