I started a list in November of 1997 with only 5 people on it in hopes to spread a few smiles around. Shortly thereafter, the list started getting more popular. Those 5 friends had some other friends that had heard about what I was doing and were interested in getting some jokes. The new people had some friends and family that wanted on. I made a small web page for what I had then entitled the SnareMan Joke List. It continued to grow for over two years.
 On January 19, 2001, The SnareMan Joke List, as it was known, died. I stopped sending jokes on that day without notice or warning for the purpose of revamping what I was doing. On March 23, 2001, BrentButler.com Jokes was born from the same ideas, quality jokes, and the same people as the SnareMan Joke List, just with a whole new automated system.
Very little changed from the SnareMan Joke List days. You still get the quality jokes and friendliness of the simplistic SnareMan Joke List, just with a little more backbone. There are things now that are far more streamlined, such as the ability to make changes to the list without my help.
What makes BrentButler.com Jokes so unique is how free it is. Normally when you come across something that's free on the Internet, it's because they bombard you with ads. Not here. No ads, chain letters, or any other marketing tool you can think of is used on BrentButler.com Jokes. Your e-mail address will NOT be sold, borrowed, loaned, told, mentioned, or even hinted to anyone. It is literally FREE. It would be nice, though, if you'd submit a joke every now and then to BrentButler.com Jokes.
